Hi Donna and Family,
We are sending you and update on Ole (Chase). Ole is about 43 lbs, which as completely fine with us. He is tall and mostly hair, but not over weight. He is truly a happy dog, who smiles a lot. We get comments all the time on how beautiful our dog is. He is a spoiled happy dog that gets presents from Josh and I as well as both grandparents for the holidays and of course birthdays.
Ole did eat something one time during the end of summer that we had to take him to the vet. He ended up being fine, just a 24 hour bug. The vet gave us a prescription of canned dog food that Ole went nuts for. He would bark and get all excited for his food. It isn’t exactly budget friendly, so Josh and I decided to buy canned dog food for occasional celebrations like birthdays and holidays. He loves to open presents too just like any kid.
We do go on long walks on the trails. He really likes the bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, robins, and ducks. He thinks he can catch him but doesn’t come close. We have also seen deer (which he thinks are big dogs) and every once in awhile we will come across turtles, which he is not sure what to think of them yet.
In the spring time when it would rain, we would come in from a walk and carry him into the sink to spray off his feet. He wasn’t sure what to think of that either, but he does fit into our sink just fine and doesn’t move much once he is sitting in the sink.
He loves other people and loves to play with other dogs. The neighbor kids just love him and they always have to say hi to him. He gets really excited when people yell his name or stop to say hello. Ole likes to go the vet as well because he gets attention from all the nurses.
He does well with walking, but do have him signed up for a training class that starts end of May as he currently gets scared of bikers and runners, so we are hoping this class will help us fix the problem.
In the winter or on the rainy days, we don’t go as long on walks as we do during the warmer seasons or non rainy days. He has gotten use to us putting on the booties in the winter and would basically hop up on our bench so we can put them on. He still hops up on the bench as we get ready to go for a walk which is great!
His favorite thing to do is run laps around the house. Josh and I will also chase him or run laps with him, which he thinks is really fun. It probably isn’t good for training purposes, but it gets him exercise and it gets us some exercise too! He also likes to plop down our laps and be pet. Ole of course likes to give lots of kisses.
We have removed most of Ole’s plush toys as he will come to a time when he is tired and sits and chews it apart. I have sewn quite few toys back together, but now just rotate them in and monitor him on those toys. Josh and I bought rubber toys that he loves to toss in his mouth that doesn’t require us to monitor him on as much. He loves balls and sticks. If a toy gets stuck , he will let us know and would like assistance on getting that toy. He will even try to help get it if we are trying to get from under a coffee table or some other piece of furniture. We just laugh sometimes. His latest thing is he will bounce his ball and then take a bite out of his food. Then he will get to a point where he will just focus on eating his food. He is pretty good about playing with balls and toys while Josh and I are cooking, which is nice. We do give him vegetables sometimes in his dog dish. He likes carrots, zucchini and celery.
He does like his crate and that is where he still sleeps. Eventually we will get him to sleep in our bedroom but we are not there yet. He has three blankets in his crate which he will move around and lay on them. He will bunch up one of them and form a pillow that he will rest his head on. Josh and I will also play a CD that is for dogs that we will put on while we are at work. It is suppose to relax the dog. When he is tired and he is out of the crate he will lay down on the arm rest of the couch and fall asleep.
Ole also does well with traveling. We have hammock for the back seat of the car, which I think likes as he can move around better. We do have separation issues, and doesn’t like to be left behind, so he does get really excited when he gets to go somewhere.
Overall, he has really been a great addition to our family. We just love his personality and couldn’t imagine our life without him.
Hope all is well,
Josh and Molly
